This category of the festival, keenly awaited by festival-goers and film professionals alike, is an honest invitation to discover the world of genre cinema. Different themes are chosen each year to enable us to cast the net wide in terms of genre and style and for this 29th Festival we will be exploring space and the supernatural, following the winding footpaths of life and love, and also telling you stories about the goodies and the baddies. Don't miss out on the five programmes of BREST OFF!
WEDNESDAY 12 - 10H - MULTIPLEXE LIBERTE (For school groups)
THURSDAY 13 - 22H - LE QUARTZ, GRAND THÉÂTRE
SUNDAY16 - 17H30 - LE QUARTZ, PETIT THÉÂTRE
With this programme entirely dedicated to science fiction, one world is not enough at Brest this year! Rocketing off into the outer reaches of space, on a mission to discover new worlds and futuristic societies, still keeping the issues concerning humankind at the centre. These five films will delight those who love genre cinema and will give you the chance, just for the length of the screening, to go deeper into time and space.
THURSDAY 13 - 13H30 - LE QUARTZ, PETIT THÉÂTRE
SATURDAY 15 - 14H - LE QUARTZ, GRAND THÉÂTRE
The Wind of Change whistled through the well-known song from a few years back and the same wind is blowing through this programme where we meet characters marked by the desire, necessity or the obligation to turn the page and start over with a new life elsewhere. Wherever the wind takes us, into the past, a new world or deeper into ourselves, the important thing is that the wind carries on blowing.
FRIDAY 14 - 20H - LE QUARTZ, GRAND THÉÂTRE
SUNDAY16 - 15H30 - LE QUARTZ, PETIT THÉÂTRE
"I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's gray and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love
Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Oh, Thursday doesn't even start
It's Friday, I'm in love
And Sunday always comes too late
But Friday, never hesitate..."
WEDNESDAY 12 - 22H - LE QUARTZ, GRAND THÉÂTRE
SATURDAY 15 - 19H30 - LE QUARTZ, PETIT THÉÂTRE
This programme fulfills the need for some fantasy that comes upon us from time to time. Fantasy, horror, dreamscapes, the supernatural and the imaginary are often a way of escape from a life that has become too difficult to deal with or an oppressive routine. Humans have always sought refuge in fantasy through art, and that explains the great wealth of literature, music and cinema dedicated to this genre. So here are seven extraordinary stories which will let you cut loose from reality and take you far, far away...
FRIDAY 14 - 22H - LE QUARTZ, GRAND THÉÂTRE
SATURDAY 15 - 21H30 - LE QUARTZ, PETIT THÉÂTRE
There are film characters that we come to love, faces that reappear from time to time and give us an enjoyable experience at the cinema. Here at the Brest Festival we adore failed crooks and clumsy cops... each to their own! This programme, which explores the crime genre from a comic perspective, will delight all self-respecting film buffs.
