Dans les années 80, Sira, jeune femme malienne de 26 ans, mène en France une existence paisible entre son mari Malick et sa fille Abi. Son quotidien se vit en soninké, la seule langue qu’elle connaisse. Mais Abi parlant mal français, l’école propose de l’orienter vers une classe d’adaptation et invite les parents à privilégier l’usage du français à la maison. Sira s’y oppose.

In the 1980s, Sira, a 26-year-old Malian woman, lives a peaceful existence in France with her husband Malick and daughter Abi. Her daily life is lived in Soninke, the only language she knows. But Abi speaks French poorly, and the school suggests sending her to an adaptation class and invites the parents to use French at home. Sira opposes this.
